Nonlocal strain regularisation for critical state models with volumetric hardening

چکیده

The finite element (FE) method may suffer from numerical instability and mesh dependency when modelling the formation of shear bands using strain-softening constitutive models. Nonlocal methods have been shown to be capable avoiding these issues effectively. This paper proposes a novel generic algorithm for incorporating existing nonlocal into FE formulation elasto-plastic models with volumetric hardening laws. Using example modified Cam Clay (MCC) model this shows that instabilities are inevitable if plastic strains directly used update parameter. further robust regularisation overcome issue. has implemented bespoke code its capability in significantly reducing while maintaining stability is verified through series analyses biaxial compression tests highly overconsolidated clays. performance various also critically assessed.

Strain hardening in polymer glasses: limitations of network models.

Simulations are used to examine the microscopic origins of strain hardening in polymer glasses. While traditional entropic network models can be fit to the total stress, their underlying assumptions are inconsistent with simulation results. There is a substantial energetic contribution to the stress that rises rapidly as segments between entanglements are pulled taut. The thermal component of s...

Size-Dependent Forced Vibration Analysis of Three Nonlocal Strain Gradient Beam Models with Surface Effects Subjected to Moving Harmonic Loads

The forced vibration behaviors are examined for nonlocal strain gradient nanobeams with surface effects subjected to a moving harmonic load travelling with a constant velocity in terms of three beam models namely, the Euler-Bernoulli, Timoshenko and modified Timoshenko beam models. The modification for nonlocal strain gradient Timoshenko nanobeams is exerted to the constitutive equations by exc...

Strain rate hardening: a hidden but critical mechanism for biological composites?

Natural materials such as nacre, bone, collagen and spider silk boast unusual combinations of stiffness, strength and toughness. Behind this performance is a staggered microstructure, which consists of stiff and elongated inclusions embedded in a softer and more deformable matrix. The micromechanics of deformation and failure associated with this microstructure are now well understood at the "u...

Nonexistence Results for Nonlocal Equations with Critical and Supercritical Nonlinearities

We prove nonexistence of nontrivial bounded solutions to some nonlinear problems involving nonlocal operators of the form Lu(x) = − ∑ aij∂iju+ PV ∫ Rn (u(x)− u(x+ y))K(y)dy. These operators are infinitesimal generators of symmetric Lévy processes. Our results apply to even kernels K satisfying that K(y)|y| is nondecreasing along rays from the origin, for some σ ∈ (0, 2) in case aij ≡ 0 and for ...

Strain Hardening Analysis for M-P Interaction in Metallic Beam of T-Section

This paper derives kinematic admissible bending moment – axial force (M-P) interaction relations for mild steel by considering strain hardening idealisations. Two models for strain hardening – Linear and parabolic have been considered, the parabolic model being closer to the experiments. The interaction relations can predict strains, which is not possible in a rigid, perfectly plastic idealizat...
